Following the success of his recent single “She’s Got So Many Faces”, Melbourne indie talent Eddie Casper returns with his second album Ohmage, out now!
The highly anticipated release is a 78-minute odyssey best heard from start to end. Incorporating a varied palette of indie rock, dream pop, progressive rock, and psychedelia, Eddie Casper masterfully guides listeners on the album’s lush musical journey.
Once again, Casper performs all instrumentation on the self-produced album, showcasing a precocious degree of talent and an impressive progression from his 2017 debut LP It’s No Secret. Recorded in solitude in a farmhouse on Victoria’s serene Mornington Peninsula, Ohmage also sees Casper at his most personal and intimate.
“The writing and recording of Ohmage was a rite of passage in every way,” says Casper. “It’s the sound of me falling in love for the first time, and the anguish that followed when the relationship fell apart. I really had to learn how to put myself back together and all these experiences found their place on Ohmage. It’s an album of acceptance and gratitude, but ultimately a celebration of love.”
The grandiose sounds heard on Ohmage’s 15 tracks mirror the overwhelming height of emotions that engulf many living in their early twenties. “As I put my teenage years behind me, my once narrow-minded view of the world suddenly began opening up,” reflects Casper. “I was in awe of the enormous panorama of life that had presented itself, and I worked hard to capture these colossal feelings on the album.”
Taking cues from “one-man band” auteurs in the likes of Sufjan Stevens, Kevin Parker and Trent Reznor, Ohmage is the culmination of Casper’s eclectic range of influences and passion for the album format. In the current age of singles, Casper hopes that this release will spark a renewed interest in the album format. “I have a tendency to be sentimental, but I feel that there’s something remarkably special about listening to an album in its entirety,” says Casper.
The album contains the single “She’s Got So Many Faces” which amassed over 10,000 streams on Spotify in its first two weeks alone. The infectious indie rock track achieved success locally too, peaking at the number two position on the Triple J Unearthed Indie and Rock charts respectively.
Ohmage demonstrates an outstanding evolution of Eddie Casper’s unique sound, as he continues his upward trajectory and brings his world-class music to the forefront.
