HYRST is the moniker of Naarm-based producer, live act and vinyl DJ Ed Hirst.
In an age of digital conformity, HYRST stands as a torchbearer of authenticity.
Armed with a passion for analogue equipment and a commitment to the vinyl format, HYRST weaves a sonic tapestry of cold electronics and machine funk. His eclectic sets draw from electro, techno, acid and body music. He has carved out a reputation for his dedication to the vinyl format and obsessive record digging. Behind the decks, he is celebrated for his technical precision and intuitive mixing, weaving between styles with ease and relying on instinct over convention.
In the studio, vintage synths and classic drum machines are the tools of choice. 15 years of experience of music production experience has given HYRST the space to sculpt his signature sound. Here, his productions take on a more cinematic form, twisting through dystopian textures, machine-driven funk, and moments of quieter contemplation.
2026 will see the release of HYRST’s debut double LP Oasis Reach – a 76-minute odyssey into techno’s retro-futuristic roots.
